Code of Conduct
Purpose
Code for Good WM (CFGWM) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to helping nonprofits and the communities they serve by promoting anti-racism and social justice.
Our Code of Conduct aims to increase open tech citizenship by encouraging participants to recognize and strengthen the relationships between our actions and their effects on our community.
CFGWM strives to include contributors with the most varied and diverse backgrounds possible, including age, disability, education, ethnicity, gender, language, nationality, physical appearance, race, religion, sexual orientation, status as a parent, or other identity.
We are committed to providing a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment for all. This Code of Conduct applies to all CFGWM events, online platforms, live presentations, communications, and collaborative workspaces.
Expected Behavior
- Participate actively and authentically to contribute to the health and longevity of this community.
- Be respectful and considerate in your speech and actions.
- Attempt collaboration before conflict.
- Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing behavior and language.
- Be mindful of your surroundings and your fellow participants.
- Alert community leaders if you notice a dangerous situation, someone in distress, or violations of this Code of Conduct, regardless of severity.
Unacceptable Behavior
Unacceptable behaviors: intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning speech or behavior by any participant.
Harassment includes any verbal or written communication that rejects, threatens, excludes, harms, or marginalizes someone based on their identity or lived experience; inappropriate use of violence, nudity, or sexual images in public spaces (including presentation slides); deliberate intimidation, stalking or following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; inappropriate physical contact, and unwelcome sexual attention.
Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior
We will not tolerate unacceptable behavior from any community member, including participants, volunteers, paid ticket holders, sponsors, and those with decision-making authority.
Anyone may ask that unacceptable behavior is to cease, and the violator must comply immediately.
If unacceptable behavior continues, board members may take appropriate action, including a temporary ban or permanent expulsion, without warning (and without refund in the case of a paid event).
If You Witness or Are Subject to Unacceptable Behavior
Please notify a board member using the Contact Info below as soon as possible. Board members will help those experiencing unacceptable behavior feel safe up to reporting to law enforcement. Board members will also accompany the person experiencing distress to a different location at in-person events.
Addressing Grievances
